Former Spurs youngster released by Serie A giants Juventus

Juventus 2

28-year-old Reto Ziegler is looking for the 10th club of his professional career.

Reto Ziegler, once a promising youngster at Spurs signed by Frank Arnesen, in the days of Jacques Santini and Martin Jol, has been released by Juventus after three years on their books where he didn't make an appearance.

His contract at Juve has, in fairness, barely been spent in Turin, as Ziegler took in successive spells at Fenerbahce, Lokomotiv Moscow, Fenerbahce again, and then Sassuolo last year.

The Switzerland international first appeared in the Premier League after being signed as a promising 18-year-old in 2004, and quickly found himself integrated into the first team during Martin Jol's first season as manager. He impressed in several games, notably in the infamous 4-5 loss to Arsenal, as well as the 5-2 win over Everton that year. Such performances saw him named the club's Young Player of the Season. Playing on the left wing rather than left back, Ziegler looked like becoming a top player, whether that was to happen at White Hart Lane or not.

Several loans later, and the Grasshooper graduate seemed to find his home at Sampdoria, spending four fruitful years in Genoa after initially joining on loan from Spurs, before being snapped up on a free transfer at Juventus. Ziegler never played for the Old Lady though, and took in several more loan spells around Europe before his release from the Serie A champs.

Having featured in an impressive six different leagues during his career, the fullback is sure to be in demand across the continent, and Gazetta report that clubs in France, Russia, Turkey and Germany are all interested in recruiting him.

Ziegler went to Brazil with the Swiss national team this summer, his second consecutive World Cup, but has been unable to dislodge highly rated youngster Ricardo Rodriguez from the left back slot, and didn't get off the bench as the Central European side exited the tournament to Argentina in the last 16.
