In his morning press conference Arsene Wenger has admitted the club could look at a defensive midfielder before the Transfer Window shuts - following the injury to captain Mikel Arteta.
His injury has seemingly shown to Wenger how light his options are in the engine room and he stated when asked on the matter of incomings today:
"We are not against that, no."
Khedira is reportedly up for grabs at Real Madrid while £28 million should see them get hold of highly rated Portuguese international Carvalho.
Arsenal are being heavily linked with a move for Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld in the Belgian press today.
The former Ajax man is believed to be a long-term target of Wenger's and has struggled for game time since his switch to the Spanish capital.
Arsenal are looking for defensive cover after Thomas Vermaelen left, with Wenger stating this morning:
"We are not in an emergency case but we are open to any opportunity to strengthen our defensive department."
Alderweireld is reportedly wanted by a host of teams this summer as his availability becomes public.
Wenger has denied any approaches for his players today. Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski have both been linked with Turkish giants Galatasaray but Wenger said:
"We have had no offers for anyone to leave."
It is believed the Gunners may consider selling Podolski but want to keep Campbell.
