Arsenal fans react to reports Podolski could leave

Lukas Podolski Germany

Arsenal were yesterday linked with considering the sale of popular forward Lukas Podolski.

The Mirror has run a report which claims Arsenal are happy to sell forward Lukas Podolski for the right price with Turkish giants Galatasaray thought to be interested in a deal.

The German is yet to return to competitive action for the Gunners after he was given an extended break by Arsene Wenger following a successful World Cup campaign with his country in Brazil.

Galatasaray reportedly want Podolski and Arsenal teammate Joel Campbell included in the same deal and it would be a remarkable transfer for Arsene Wenger to commission considering his current reserves up front.

Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo are the primary strikers along with Podolski and Joel Campbell is yet to receive a chance to impress in the current first team despite playing well at the World Cup with Costa Rica.

The perception is that Arsenal are light up front, with criticism of Giroud following the game against Besiktas earlier this week leading for calls to Wenger to try and sign another striker before the close of the summer transfer window.

So any decision to sell Podolski could be negatively received by the club’s fans for two main reasons.

Firstly, he’s a key part of Arsenal’s attack and Wenger using Alexis Sanchez in a wide role means Podolski can be freed up to fill a centre forward role where he has plenty of experience.

Secondly, he’s a very popular first team player with the club’s fans. It would be slightly different if he’d been voicing a desire to leave all summer but the German has always been loyal to the Gunners while he’s been at the club.

He’s more than capable of playing a striker role which makes it even more important for the club to keep him if Wenger isn’t thinking about another attacking addition in the transfer market.

Here’s what Arsenal fans are making of the rumours that Podolski could be sold.
