Balotelli has since told Milan TV that today was his last training day with the Rossoneri and it looks as though this once mythical transfer rumour might actually come true.
At a price of a reported £16 million you can understand why. That is a bargain for the Italian international, who on his day is unplayable.
Balotelli of course has history in the Premier League. He had an explosive tenure at Manchester City where he made more headlines off the pitch then he ever did on it. He visited Anfield twice during that time but two years ago we got an insight into his feelings on Liverpool from a mutual source.
Fabio Borini is one Italian striker Liverpool are trying to move out of the club. Meanwhile Balotelli is all set to be an Italian moving in - but in 2012 it was the words of Balotelli that convinced Borini to take a move to Anfield from AS Roma.
Borini and Balotelli were together in the Italian squad for Euro 2012 - when rumours of Brendan Rodgers' interest in bringing his former Swansea loanee to Liverpool first emerged.
And when Borini finally did sign for Liverpool, he said that Balotelli had this to say on Liverpool:
"The fans played a big part (in me joining Liverpool). When I was with Italy at Euro 2012, I was talking to Balotelli about England, and he told me that Liverpool had the most exciting fans to play in front of. He described it as a beautiful experience."
Without even kicking a ball in anger Balotelli has seemingly already gone one step toward winning over his new fans.
