Report: Napoli ready to give up on injured Fellaini

The latest Italian reports indicate that Napoli are set to end their pursuit of Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini after he sustained an injury.

Belgian international Marouane Fellaini no longer seems to be on Napoli's shopping list after he picked up an injury in training.

Napoli had been in negotiations with Manchester United for weeks over a loan deal with the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

The two clubs struggled to agree the terms of the transfer with United's loan fee requests proving too high for Napoli and the percentage of Fellaini's wage bill that the Italians would pay proving a sticking point.

It had just appeared that an agreement was on the cards when Fellaini was pictured entering Bridgwater hospital on crutches with his foot in a protective cast by the Sun.

The latest reports in Italy suggest that Napoli have been put off making the move due to Fellaini's injury and are ready to look for other targets.

Fellaini may now be bound to Manchester United at least until January when the two teams could re-enter talks over a transfer.

In the meantime, Napoli have closed out a deal for ex-Swansea loanee Jonathan de Guzman who spent the last two years on loan to Swansea.
