Carlo Ancelotti’s heart would have been in his mouth when Cristiano Ronaldo hit the deck during the Super Cup game against Atletico Madrid last night.
The Portuguese star has suffered with injuries throughout the summer and while Ancelotti has subsequently said he’s not concerned by this latest setback.
“He felt something and was uncomfortable. We’ll evaluate it tomorrow, he’ll undergo all the checks and we’ll see what it is. It doesn’t seem to be anything serious,” said the Italian.
The injury appears to be a back problem rather than a reoccurrence of the knee issue, which plagued Ronaldo throughout the World Cup in Brazil.
Di Maria plays in a similar position off of the left hand side and Ancelotti could go back on previous indications that the Argentine can leave if he needs him as cover, which would be a serious dent to Manchester United and their transfer plans.
If the injury turns out not to be serious, there is still enough time for a deal to be completed but the closer the end of the summer transfer window gets, the more pressure Manchester United, Louis van Gaal and Di Maria find themselves under.
