Nainggolan comments on AS Roma team-mate Mehdi Benatia's future

In the latest transfer news, Benatia has been linked with Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich but Radja Nainggolan hopes he stays in Rome.

Manchester United targets Kevin Strootman and Mehdi Benatia were both presented to fans, along with the rest of the AS Roma squad, ahead of a friendly with Fenerbahce even though neither player featured in the match-up.

Both players have been embroiled in protracted transfer sagas, with Strootman the subject of alleged £79 million interest from Louis van Gaal, as the Dutchman looks to shake-up his midfield, while Benatia has caught the eye of both Manchester United and Chelsea.

The pre-season encounter with the Turkish side reaped a high 3-3 score, with Francesco Totti converting a penalty and Mattia Destro returning a brace.

And, following the game, Strootman's midfield partner Radja Nainggolan - who also watched from the sidelines - told reporters at Sky that he "hopes" Benatia "remains with Rome".

He said: "Last year he proved to be a very strong player. I think it's pretty clear."

Chelsea boss Mourinho was believed to be interested in signing Benatia after sanctioning the £50 million sale of David Luiz to Chelsea, while Manchester United boss van Gaal wanted to acquire him to increase his centre back options.

Recent reports, though, suggest the £30 million rated defender will reject Premier League overtures to remain at the Stadio Olimpico outfit.

Gazzetta dello Sport state that Moussa Sissoko, Benatia's representative, has already held court with Walter Sabatini - Roma's director of sport - in order to discuss more preferential terms on his client's contract.
