Manchester United look to be addressing some of their issues today as they look set to make their third big signing of the summer. United have finally come to an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for the services of Argentine defender Marcos Rojo - after a long and protracted saga.
Rojo will follow Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera in making the move to Old Trafford this summer, with £16 million and outcast winger Nani going in the other direction.
And while it seems a shrewd addition, and one which has pleased the majority of United fans, they do not want the transfer activity to end there.
It became abundantly clear against Swansea City at the weekend that United are still a long way short of the quality needed to challenge for the Champions League places in England once again, let alone the Premier League title.
Fans want to see big name signings coming through the door. They want a world-class centre-back, Mats Hummels has been mooted. A midfield dynamo who can control the game with his own tempo like in the days of Keane and Scholes; Arturo Vidal has been mentioned. They also want a killer winger, one who can terrorise defences in the way Ryan Giggs of old would have done; Angel Di Maria appears to be the man they want most.
But look away now, because according to Sky Sports, with just 12 days to go until the Transfer Window slams shut, United are said to not be in negotiations with any other club. for any other player.
This is a Tweet from Chief News Reporter Bryan Swanson, confirming the news:
As Marcos Rojo has medical, we're told Man Utd have yet to make a formal offer for any other player. 12 days to go. #mufc— Bryan Swanson (@skysports_bryan) August 20, 2014
So United fans might be waiting up till the very last minute of Deadline Day, just waiting to see if any of these marquee targets arrives this summer.
