Leicester look to Catania man as well as Cambiasso

Catania fans celebrating

As well as eyeing Esteban Cambiasso, Leicester City are said to be ready to swoop for Catania defender Pablo Alvarez, who has become a free agent.

Newly promoted Leicester City are aiming to make two swoops within the next few days for Argentine stars with Serie A experience.

Leicester boss Nigel Pearson has admitted that he is looking to lure former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, who became a free agent this summer after a decade with the Nerazzurri.

At the same time, Leicester are also on the trail of Catania defender Pablo Alvarez, who is leaving Sicily after his deal expired following the Elefanti's relegation from the top flight.

The Mirror claims that Leicester are trying to accelerate talks for both players in the hope of adding the two men to their squad as soon as possible.

Argentine defender Alvarez, who also has a Spanish passport, has been at Catania since 2008, although he spent 2009 on loan to Rosario Central and 2012 at Real Zaragoza.

He has made 112 appearances for the Italian side and at the age of 30 is an experienced defender known for turning in consistent performances in the heart of the defence.

Alvarez was strongly linked to West Ham in January but Catania hoped he would be able to keep them in Serie A and opted not to cash him in.
