In the latest Manchester United transfer news, Sport BILD run nine potential candidates for a transfer to Manchester United.
Sport-BILD report that Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, formerly of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, could have up to €250 million (£200 million) to spend over the course of the season and, with under two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, have listed nine possible targets having already ratified a deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo.
The German publication note that "Manchester United may be interested in Barcelona midfielder Alexandre Song," as the Cameroonian player is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou and could be available for a cut-price fee (£8 million). Van Gaal may even view the former Arsenal star as a potential stop-gap measure should deals for higher calibre signings fail to materialise.
Surprisingly, at number two, is Bayern Munich and Germany enforcer Bastian Schweinsteiger. A World Cup winning athlete, Schweinsteiger "would fit perfectly into the system [at Old Trafford], however, a transfer seems unlikely," claim BILD.
If reports of a £200 million transfer kitty are based on merit, rather than speculation, then Angel di Maria could swallow up half of those funds in fee and player salary, but could find a cheaper alternative in PSV Eindhoven wonderkid Memphis Depay (although the Dutchman is not listed on BILD's nine options for United and van Gaal).
If the club require further defensive reinforcements then they may have to move on from Mehdi Benatia as "Bayern should have [won] the race for the centre back… they have the edge," so, instead, one of Philippe Mexes, Stuttgart stopper Antonio Rudiger (right) or Ajax utility Daley Blind could be targeted.
Completing the list are two midfield options in Kevin Strootman and Arturo Vidal. The latter is "van Gaal's desire [but] Turin do not want the sale," while the former could be turned to instead.
