All the latest Chelsea transfer news and rumours including the club's reported interest in William Carvalho, Paul Pogba and Mehdi Benatia.
Sporting Lisbon have released an official statement amid media-speculated interest in emergent super-prospect William Carvalho from Premier League pair Arsenal and Chelsea.
A £35 million rated athlete who is adept at offering back-four protection, the Portuguese defensive midfielder has not been subject of a bid from the Stamford Bridge side - as had initially been thought earlier in the week.
A club spokesperson said: “The news [about Chelsea’s offer] is not true. The club have not got any formal offer to our offices for the player.”
Carvalho is believed to have a £37 million get-out clause in his contract but would likely transfer to Arsenal if he were to leave Sporting, as at Chelsea he would face much superior competition for places in the holding midfield role.
Over the course of the summer, Chelsea have also been linked with Paul Pogba in a mega £60 million deal, however, The Express are talking-up the chances of the Frenchman remaining in Turin after Juventus "open contract talks".
Manager Jose Mourinho has also been linked with a move for a centre back as he looks to replace David Luiz, who was sold to Paris Saint-Germain.
One target had been identified as AS Roma star Mehdi Benatia, yet the player's team-mate at Stadio Olimpico has implored the Moroccan to stay put.
And finally, there is more on Thibaut Courtois's likely contract extension as Chelsea want to conclude the new contract "as soon as possible", according to ESPN sources.
