Arsenal latest: Khedira update, Carvalho bid and Chambers chuffed

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Sami Khedira was again omitted from the Real Madrid squad for a Super Cup match last night, again suggesting he could be on the move this summer.

Khedira is available, he played against Fiorentina at the weekend, and it looks increasingly as if he will depart this summer.

However Bayern Munich are now ready to challenge The Gunners for is signature after the knee injury suffered by Javi Martinez.

Arsenal have reportedly had a bid of £20 million rejected for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The Chelsea and Manchester United target has been linked with a plethora of teams this summer, but it seems Arsenal have drawn first blood - after it was confirmed yesterday that Chelsea have not made a bid for the player.

Sporting Lisbon value the player at a fee nearer £28 million and the player himself is also partly owned by a third party - in a similarly nightmarish scenario to the one Manchester United have just had to navigate in order to snap up Marcos Rojo.

Carvalho has been compared to club legend Patrick Vieira in the past.

Jack Wilshere has been speaking about the second leg of the Champions League against Besiktas next week, after drawing their first tie against the Turkish side in Istanbul last night.

He stated:

"They are going to come full of confidence from their performance in the first game and we are going to have to start how they did and take the game to them. We always want to be in the Champions League and to attract players who can be in the Champions League. We know how big a game it is, and we will treat it as a cup final."

Callum Chambers has been speaking about his Champions League debut. He impressed last night, and said of the experience:

"It's a fantastic experience for me at a stadium like that and a crowd like that. All the boys put in such a good effort and I think we deserved a 0-0, if not more. You've just got to stay switched on the whole time and stay focused for 90 minutes. At anytime they can create chances and score. It's another good experience for me playing against players of such quality."
