Arsene Wenger’s side were far from their best as a late Aaron Ramsey goal saw off Crystal Palace on Saturday. And speaking to Talk Sport, Sansom warned that a repeat of that performance and they could well come unstuck against the Turkish side.
“If they play like they did against Palace they’ve got no chance,” Sansom said.
“That was one of the worst passing performances I’ve seen from them in a long time.
“It looked like they were half asleep. I’ve never seen it before, it was amazing. I don’t know how many times they gave the ball away under no pressure.”
Arsenal could be forgiven for being slow out of the tracks; after all, it was the opening game of the season and despite their disappointing performance they still secured the three points.
But Wenger will know the importance of qualifying for the Champions League group stage and his side must ensure they are closer to their best when they face Slaven Bilic’s side this evening and again next week.
The former Croatia manager has already said that while Arsenal are favourites on paper his side can cause a shock. So it will be interesting to see just how much better the visitors passing and overall play is when they take to the field in what is always an intimidating environment.
