Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has backed Liverpool to be in the mix towards the top of the table this season, as the build up has already begun ahead of the match between the two sides on Monday night.
The two sides played out two very entertaining games last season and were the two sides in the title race going into the final day.
City took all three points when the two sides met on Boxing Day last term at the Etihad Stadium when they came from behind to beat the Reds 2-1. Liverpool managed to survive a City comeback at Anfield when the visitors came from two goals down to draw level, only for Philippe Coutinho to put the Reds ahead again.
Hart is quoted in the Daily Mirror: "I expect them to be up there. They've lost a few players but signed a few with the money they've made."
Both sides will be looking to strike an early blow in the title race and put down an early marker. Manchester City's home form last season was very good, and they will be favourites going into the game but if Liverpool managed to get a positive result from the Etihad Stadium, it could make a few people sit up and take notice of a side that some had down as fifth favourites for the title.
It will be interesting to see how both sides get on having won their opening games this season but both had their hairy moments against their respective opponents.
Of course, a win for either side will not mean they will definitely finish ahead of their opponents, but getting a big win on the board can be used as a springboard at the early stage of the season, and their rivals may take note.
