Liverpool get their under-21 Premier League campaign under way this evening as they travel to Sunderland.
The Reds have one of the best academy setups in the country but they start in their group already chasing a gap with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur having all won their opening games.
This is a great opportunity for Liverpool’s young stars to impress under-21 boss Michael Beale and catch the attention of first team manager Brendan Rodgers.
This platform will also provide Rodgers with the opportunity to nurse qualified first team stars back towards match fitness due to the regulations, which allow a certain number of players over the age of 23-years-old to take part in the league games.
The youngsters on show can take confidence from the fact that Rodgers has frequently used younger players in his first team with Raheem Sterling a great example of a player to have progressed from the youth ranks.
