Newcastle could hijack Feyenoord bid for £4m Bundesliga misfit

The Magpies have been linked with a bid for £4m-rated Wolfsburg forward Bas Dost, with the Dutch striker reportedly also on Feyenoord’s radar.

Newcastle United are reportedly weighing up whether to make a shock bid for Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost, who could be set to depart the Bundesliga club.

Signed from SC Heerenveen for £7 million back in July 2012, Dost came to the club with a reputation for goals, having been named Eredivisie top scorer with a tally of 32 goals in 34 domestic appearances over the previous season.

But the 25-year-old has struggled to hit the same heights in Germany, scoring 12 in 41 appearances for the Wolves over the past two seasons.

And it would appear that the Bundesliga side are willing to cut their losses on the forward, following the signing of former Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner on a free transfer.

According to the Daily Mirror, that move could see Bost depart the club, with Newcastle linked with a move for the Holland under-21 international.

Any Magpies move would see the Toon pip Feyenoord to a move for Bost, who had previously been rumoured to be heading back to Holland.

The Eredivisie giants are keen to recruit a new target man, following the departure of Italian striker Graziano Pelle to Southampton.

Bost could yet opt for a move to Feyenoord too, with Newcastle currently boasting an array of new striker all vying for a starting place in the team.

Emmanuel Riviere was recruited from AS Monaco in a £6 million deal, while Facundo Ferreyra has also arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk on loan until the end of the season.

With these two set to compete with Papiss Cisse for a starting place, intense competition for place could well put Bost off any potential move to the Premier League side, as the Dutch striker looks to rebuild his reputation and perhaps earn a call-up to the Oranje national team.
