Record signing Mesut Ozil will be at home in London watching the Champions League tie against Besiktas, rather than playing in the crucial qualifier.
Arsenal face the Turkish side on Tuesday night, with manager Arsene Wenger describing his side as 'desperate' to proceed to the knock out stages.
He was not however desperate enough to take Mesut Ozil with him, believing the German international still to be lacking in match fitness, left behind along with Lukas Podolski.
Arsenal's players flew out to Turkey early on Monday afternoon after a training session at London Colney, before Ozil posted a message on Twitter wishing his teammates good luck early the same evening.
Arsene Wenger has taken Per Mertesacker on the trip, as 'emergency cover' in defence, although Laurent Koscielny trained today after picking up a knock at the weekend, and the German is unlikely to feature.
Arsenal hope to have Ozil back in time to feature at the weekend against Everton and for the second leg, but the contest at Besiktas will give Jack Wilshere another chance to prove himself in his place after failing to shine against Crystal Palace.
