Hope for Everton as reported loan target tipped for Atletico exit

Reported Everton loan target Saul Niguez could be on the move.

Reported Everton and Liverpool target Saul Niguez could be on the move this summer, according to reports in the Spanish press.

The Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder recently signed a new deal until the summer of 2018, but broadsheet El Confidencial claims the 19-year-old could be on the move with game-time likely to be limited this season.

The paper claims that with former Chelsea target Tiago now remaining at the La Liga champions, Niguez is unlikely to be used regularly. And that has led to speculation that “the exit door is ajar.”

The teenager impressed on loan at Rayo Vallecano last season and it was those performances that allegedly prompted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Everton.

The Toffees were most recently linked with a move, with claims in May that Roberto Martinez could again use the loan system to his advantage.

The presence of Emre Can at Anfield suggests that Liverpool may no longer be interested in a player who will surely only move to a club where minutes are guaranteed. But if the latest story is true, Everton may be wise to test the water.

Niguez is an extremely talented player who can also play as a more forward-thinking midfielder and as a centre-back. Last season he made 37 appearances for Vallecano, scoring two goals, setting up one and gaining invaluable experience in the process.

Following the successful loan spell enjoyed by Gerard Deulofeu last season, could Martinez bring in another succesful La Liga import as Everton look to kick on once more?
