Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally believes Chelsea bringing Cesc Fabregas back to the Premier League is the best bit of transfer business this summer.
Having originally left Arsenal for Barcelona in August 2011, many are eager to see whether the ex-Gunners captain’s £30 million return to England will see him rediscover the form he showcased during his eight seasons at the Emirates, following a somewhat frustrating spell in his homeland.
His impressive pre-season serving as a promising sign, McInally has hailed the 27-year-old’s capture as an ‘absolute belter signing’ and believes his introduction will prove crucial to the club’s title hopes for the coming campaign.
‘I’m a massive fan of Cesc Fabregas, and I do think that Chelsea managing to get him is a huge coup,’ the ex-Scotland international told Sky Sports.
‘Obviously Costa coming in as well is pretty good but I think with Mourinho, this is a big season for them. There was no silverware last year and he knows he has to deliver after coming up just short.
'Costa will be a big contributor but I just think that the addition of Fabregas is an absolute belter signing by Mourinho and he could be a massive, massive player for Chelsea this season.
Set to fill Frank Lampard’s vacated role in the lineup, Fabregas notched up 57 goals and 98 assists in 303 games during his first spell in England, and Chelsea will be hoping for similar production from the 91-times capped Spain international in their quest to challenge on all fronts.
Along with fellow summer signings Costa and Filipe Luis, the pair both arriving from Atletico Madrid for a combined £52 million, Fabregas’s addition represents somewhat of a new era at Chelsea and fans will be watching in eager anticipation once their campaign kicks off to see what he can do in a Blue shirt.
