Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is in line to make his debut for his new club Barcelona tonight.
The 27-year-old has been named on the substitutes’ bench for the former Spanish and European champions’ clash against Club Leon in the Joan Gamper Trophy.
Suarez returned to training last week after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) slightly reduced the severity of his four-month ban from FIFA (click here to read more).
The former Ajax star can now train and play in friendly matches for Barcelona, which is why he is on the bench tonight and could come on in the second half at Camp Nou.
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique confirmed on Sunday that their club’s £75 million signing Suarez will make an appearance in front of the home fans tonight, adding: ‘The impression is that he’s a top-class player. He reads the game well and understands our style’.
This may be just a season curtain-raiser for Barcelona, but it could give a sign of what’s to come from Enrique’s team this term.
The match is also the Catalan giants’ final pre-season friendly before the 2014-15 La Liga campaign gets underway on Saturday.
