Liverpool won 2-1 against Southampton in their first game of the new Premier League campaign on Sunday.
Raheem Sterling put the Reds ahead after a great pass from Jordan Henderson, but Saints defender Nathaniel Clyne equalised with a fantastic finish after good work from summer signing Dusan Tadic.
Southampton could have gone on to win the match but it was Daniel Sturridge who continued where he left off last season, finishing off a headed-pass from Sterling to ensure Brendan Rodgers began the new campaign with a win.
Simon Mignolet impressed in goal for the hosts while Dejan Lovren also looked composed - for the most part - against his former side.
In a game with plenty of chances, the sides equally shared 24 shots, with the visitors edging attempts on targets six to five.
There was much for new Southampton boss Ronald Koeman to be pleased with, but he could well be looking for a new quality centre-back to partner Jose Fonte in what remains of the summer transfer window.
