With the La Liga domestic season not even under way yet, Liverpool loanee Iago Aspas is already in the wars with Spanish defenders, involved in an ugly scene with Cadiz defender Lopez.
The former Celta Vigo striker failed to settle in the Premier League last season and returned to his homeland on loan in a bid to regain his confidence.
Following the Merseysiders' negotiations to bring in Alberto Moreno from Europa League champions Sevilla, the Spanish club took advantage by persuading the Reds to hand over their misfiring striker.
He made his competitive debut during Sevilla’s 2-0 Super Cup loss to Real Madrid, and he was hoping for better fortunes against Cadiz as be bids to be fit for La Liga’s opening weekend next week.
Coming on as a second-half substitute, Aspas’ most notable contribution seemed to be his personal battle with Cadiz defender Lopez which boiled over unsavoury in the 75th minute.
After receiving a poor challenge by the defender, the Liverpool loanee had a few words before receiving an ugly headbutt which sent him to the turf, much to the shock of his fellow teammates.
Plenty of pushing and shoving on both sides was to follow with the referee quickly brandishing a red card to Lopez. Fortunately, the incident did not require any medical attention and much to his surprise Aspas was also booked for his troubles.
