Radamel Falcao’s proposed departure from AS Monaco took another twist last night after fresh reports claimed that he was offered to La Liga giants Barcelona.
According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the Colombian international was offered to the Catalans in May who in turn rejected Monaco’s proposal as they opted for former Liverpool ace Luis Suarez.
“Radamel Falcao was offered to Barcelona last May. While appreciating his strengths and recognising that he was one of the best number '9' that might be in the market, the club declined the opportunity to sign him because it was clear Luis Suarez was the objective.” The report claims.
Falcao has since been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid whilst whispers around Merseyside suggest that Liverpool could also be keen on his signature.
The Reds have been extremely busy over the summer after losing Uruguayan international superstar Luis Suarez to Barcelona in a record deal reportedly worth £75 million.
Brendan Rodgers has so far signed seven players permanently whilst also adding Javier Manquillo on loan from Atletico Madrid.
One area which still appears light, however, is that number nine role as Rickie Lambert isn’t expected to play each week whereas fellow striker signing Divock Origi is on loan at Lille for the season.
Whilst the Anfield outfit can count on the ever-improving Daniel Sturridge, many observers feel that Luis Suarez’s 31 goal haul from last season hasn’t been replaced as of yet.
There are two weeks left for boss Rodgers to add to his exciting squad and following Real Madrid’s refusal to sign Radamel Falcao, a possible €60 million-plus blockbuster deal to bring the star to the Premier League isn’t worth ruling out just yet.
Should Liverpool make a late bid for Radamel Falcao?
