Robbie Savage does a ‘I told you so’ with Manchester United fans

Former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage slams Manchester United’s performance against Swansea City at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Manchester United slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Swansea City in their opening game of the new Premier League season on Saturday, and Robbie Savage was gloating about his prediction.

The former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder has predicted the Red Devils to finish outside the top four this campaign - behind Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Understandably, Savage has been receiving harsh messages from the United fans, but following the Manchester outfit’s defeat to Swansea at Old Trafford, the 39-year-old was quick to hit back at them.

It is a bit harsh to state that United’s performance against the Swans was ‘rubbish’, but it certainly left much to be desired.

True, manager Louis van Gaal could not call upon the likes of Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, Rafael, Michael Carrick, Danny Welbeck and Robin van Persie due to injuries, but in his first competitive game at Old Trafford, the Dutchman did not do his huge pedigree justice.

But perhaps it was a matter of Swansea being the better team than United being the worse. It was Gary Monk’s side who took the lead at Old Trafford, thanks to Ki Sung-yueng’s goal just before the half-hour mark.

Although Wayne Rooney equalised on 53 minutes, the Welsh outfit persevered and got their winner through Gylfi Sigurdsson in the 72nd minute.

It was clear on Saturday that United have a lot to improve, and that Van Gaal needs to sign top-class players. Perhaps the defeat will push the Red Devils bosses to make their signings soon.
