Hull City kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 away win against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, thanks to a second-half goal from James Chester.
Queens Park Rangers were expected to kick off their 2014-15 Premier League campaign with a victory at home, but Hull City spoiled their party.
James Chester scored in the 52nd minute to hand the Tigers a 1-0 win at Loftus Road on Saturday, getting the better of former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand to head home from a corner.
Hull could have conceded an equaliser when Chester was controversially penalised for a handball offence inside the visitors’ penalty box, but Charlie Austin’s spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
On the balance of play, QPR probably deserved (at least) a point. They had more shots on target (6 to 4), had (marginally) better possession and forced McGregor into making twice as many saves as Robert Green (6 to 3).
However, it was Steve Bruce’s side who picked up with the three points in London and went back to Hull with all smiles.
The Yorkshire club are expected to struggle for survival in the Premier League once again, which is why a victory on the road in their very first game of the season will enhance their confidence.
