On this day: Mourinho will quit if he doesn't win titles; Wenger says sorry

Mourinho Press Conference Still

On the 17th August 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 17th August 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 17th August 2013…

Mourinho makes admission

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho made a quite sensational claim about his future at Chelsea, by insisting he would quit if he did not bring success back to the club.

It was the opening weekend of the Premier League season and Chelsea were preparing to play Hull City. Mourinho said of his Chelsea future:

“Of course, it is about winning trophies. My DNA didn’t change, my nature didn’t change. I am not the kind of person to be at the same club for three or four years without winning a trophy. In this case, I don’t need the club to say ‘we are not happy with you, goodbye’. I will be the first one to say ‘I gave everything I could but I didn’t succeed, so let’s both go and try a different thing'."

Well they did't win anything last season, Mourinho will be hoping to change that this time around.

Sorry guys

Arsene Wenger was apologising to Arsenal fans after an opening day defeat at The Emirates against Aston Villa.

The Gunners were torn apart in a 3-1 loss, with goals from Christian Benteke (2) and Antonio Luna doing the damage.

And Wenger said of the result:

"What hurts me is to disappoint people who love the club. I'm here to make them happy and when I do not I can only say sorry, come back and make them happy in the next game."

Arsenal went on to have an impressive start to the season, leading the pile longer then anyone else in the campaign. However they ended up finishing fourth, but did win the FA Cup.

Come on David Moyes

Life under David Moyes started well for Manchester United.

They romped to a 4-1 victory at The Liberty Stadium as the post Sir Alex era looked like being bright.

But it soon went sour and Moyes did not last the season.

A year later and United are reeling from a defeat, to Swansea, on the opening day of the campaign under a different new manager.
