La Liga transfer latest: Atletico looking to rescue Liverpool outcast from Anfield hell

All the latest summer transfer news from La Liga...

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is expected to leave Anfield this month having been pushed down the pecking order after the arrival of Southampton centre back Dejan Lovren, with the likes of Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Tiago Ilori all still at the club - a situation which had reportedly reduced Agger to tears.

The Dane was tipped to join Barcelona earlier this month, but their £15m signing of Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen has left Agger in limbo. Now, another La Liga side is looking to sign Agger, as Atletico Madrid have been linked with a move to sign him - which could mean that Belgian international Toby Alderweireld is set to leave the club.

Barcelona's signing of Vermaelen, coupled with that of Jeremy Mathieu, could have been seen as the end of their attempts to improve their defence. However, with Dani Alves linked with a move away from the club, a right back has been added to their shopping list.

Fiorentina's Juan Cuadrado had been seen as a possible right back despite being a winger for Fiorentina, but the big asking price on the Colombian has led to manager Luis Enrique looking for other targets. Sao Paulo's Douglas is the latest rumoured target, and speculation suggests that the Catalan giants have made a final €6m bid to land him.

Elsewhere, Valencia's pursuit of Eduardo Vargas appears to have been fruitless with a move to Arsenal believed to be in the pipeline. Having brought striker Rodrigo Moreno back to Spain from Benfica, they could look to do the same with Juventus' Fernando Llorente, with the Turin side looking to raise funds having been linked with Monaco's Falcao.

Finally, Sevilla made the tough decision to sell star left back Alberto Moreno to Liverpool last week, but are now looking to make Malaga's Portuguese international Antunes his replacement, whilst they may also try to spend the £12m fee they gained for Moreno on Hamburg midfielder Milan Badelj.
