Stan Collymore believes that Arsenal need a midfield enforcer to challenge for the title this season.

Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign in an uncomfortable fashion as a late Aaron Ramsey goal gave them a 2-1 home victory over Crystal Palace.

The Gunners went into the match in confident mood on the back of the 3-0 Community Shield victory over Manchester City last week, but struggled to break down a dogged Palace side.

The visitors took a shock lead against the run of play, and despite Arsenal clawing back and winning at the death, their frailties of previous seasons were on show for all to see.

Boss Arsene Wenger has two weeks left to add to the eight players who have already been brought to the club this summer, and surely a central midfielder is high on the list.

The last reliable defensive midfielder to play at the club was Cameroon international Alex Song, whose departure to Barcelona has left a void which has yet to be filled.

talkSPORT pundit Stan Collymore believes that this is Arsenal’s biggest weakness, and that unless they bring in a new player, the lack of a midfield enforcer will prevent them from challenging for the Premier League title.

One possible name who could be the missing piece for Arsene Wenger’s side is Paris Saint-Germain youngster Adrien Rabiot.

The 19-year-old central midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners over the past week as reports in France state the club are free to negotiate with the player (click here to read more).

Rabiot’s contract with the Ligue 1 champions runs out next summer and he could be made available for a bargain fee in the region of €6million-€8m.

While not the finished article yet, the French U21 international is highly rated and his addition could provide the bite needed to take Arsenal to the next level.
