Chelsea transfer news: £25m target in United talks; Courtois and Cech set to stay

All the latest transfer news and gossip from Stamford Bridge this morning.

Despite Jose Mourinho making it clear Chelsea had no interest in the services of Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia last week The Blues have continued to be linked with an interest in the AS Roma player.

Chelsea were reportedly set to do battle with Premier League rivals Manchester United for his signature, but if they were, they appear to have lost.

Reports in Italy and now Sky Sports suggest that United have agreed a £25 million deal with the Giallorossi for the player, as United need centre-back cover after losing the opening day of the season to Swansea City at home.

He is set to travel to Manchester this week in order to discuss terms and then potentially undergo a medical ahead of a big money switch.

Chelsea look set to keep both Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech at the club, despite both players being adamant they will not play second fiddle to the other.

The Belgian is expected to win the battle for the number one spot this weekend, but that does not mean Cech will be on his way:

"There are teams without a good goalkeeper and that's a big problem. That's a problem I don't want to have. Ask me what position, the first position where you want to be strong, I tell you goalkeeper. We at Chelsea we can [have two of the best three goalkeepers in the world]. We are economically stable. We can have Diego Costa, Drogba and Torres but not Courtois and Petr Cech? I can have Ramires, Fabregas, Matic and Oscar and I cannot have two top goalkeepers? I can and Chelsea can. I can as a manager and Chelsea can as a club."

Some more news from yesterday now as Chelsea agreed for Victor Moses to go out on loan to Stoke City. The Nigerian international spent last season with Liverpool and has made this move for regular first-team football, which Chelsea could not guarantee.
