Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace yesterday in what was a tight game, culminating in Aaron Ramsey's last minute strike to claim a 2-1 win.
For Arsenal it was a well-fought victory but before the game Arsene Wenger was complaining about the start of the Premier League season - suggesting it should have been put back slightly.
And you can see why he would think so, as many of his players were either unavailable or not 100% fit after their World Cup duties this summer.
All three Germans watched on - Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker given extra time off after being crowned the world's best. Then there was Olivier Giroud, starting from the bench as he has not yet achieved match fitness.
Then there is Alexis Sanchez. The £35 million summer signing from FC Barcelona also had an extended break after his efforts with Chile in Brazil. He played the full 90 minutes yesterday and in a way fans can't really complain with his performance. He bagged an assist on his Premier League debut and you can see his talent just waiting to burst out.
But it was far from a complete performance. Alexis had his moments but his passing, as was much of the Arsenal team's, was way off the mark and his crossing from open-play was not good at all.
On top of that however his work-rate was sensational and he is probably still only at around 75 per cent of his overall fitness.
Once he is in top condition it will be a different Alexis on show, of that there can be no doubt. So despite mostly mixed reactions on Twitter to his Premier League bow, most Arsenal fans are optimistic he will become better in time. And they are probably right.
Here is some of the reaction from Twitter to Alexis' Premier League debut against Crystal Palace...
Alexis Sanchez was average today. Struggled with physicality & was quiet but showed glimpses. Still not 100% fit for me, more to come— Will (@WGodderz_21) August 16, 2014
Alexis struggled with constantly being muscled off the ball. Ref decisions kept going against him.— GunnerDoYou (@GunnerDoYou) August 16, 2014
Alexis Sanchez must improve his game. Didn't hav a good one IMO yesterday, held too long 2 the ball. Cazorla was another big disappointment— awöniran taiwö (@tee_theguy) August 17, 2014
Promising performance from Alexis, got an assist and he will most definitely build on that, very exciting— HAPPY BOY (@OldMcBryan) August 16, 2014
Alexis was very promising today but it is true he needs to adjust his sights. A lot of wayward passing, especially his final ball.— Ardilla (@hahostolze) August 10, 2014
What I like about Alexis is he tries hard, he's missing his sharpness and explosiveness but that comes with optimum fitness.— Arsenal Passion (@arsenalpassion7) August 16, 2014
Poor final ball from Alexis today but he's short fitness wise, has still worked his socks off. Ran more than anyone, started well— Stuart Jackson (@TheRunner87) August 16, 2014
Alexis is brilliant but he needs a link up that's equally talented.— John Wilson (@DeejayRoss) August 16, 2014
Good result yesterday, but poor performance that needs to be improved for Besiktas, Wilshere impressive, Alexis unconvincing thus far— Hari Dhillon (@HariSinghD) August 17, 2014
