Patrick Bamford, who has been linked with moves with both Leeds and Middlesbrough this summer, had been thought to be exiting Stamford Bridge imminently on a short-term deal. However, the 20-year-old striker was included in a strong Under-21 Chelsea side in their opening U21 Premier League match with Manchester City where the hosts won 2-1.
Middlesbrough, who were thought to be close to sealing a deal, have been strongly linked with Bamford this week and have even run a player profile piece on their local newspaper's website. However, according to fresh reports, the Yorkshire side are also thought to be interested in taking the young striker on loan.
The Chelsea forward's reputation exploded last season when he hit an incredible 25-goals in all competitions, 17 with MK Dons in League One and eight with Derby in the Championship. Now, he is considered by many pundits as one of the best options for Championship clubs to loan next season, which has prompted two of the division's biggest clubs to move for the young player.
Although the 20-year-old was in emphatic goalscoring form whilst at Derby County, he soon fell to the bench because of short-comings in the rest of his game. However, with another year at Championship level, the England Under-21 international may reach the heights he has previously shown promise of hitting in the early stages of his career.
