Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has seemingly ruled out an exit for two of his players this summer.
This transfer window has seen both Sami Khedira and Angel Di Maria regularly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal tipped to bid for the German international and Manchester United regularly linked with the Argentine.
With deadline-day fast approaching, the more hopeful fans of both clubs may have been left wondering if the two Real stars would arrive in the final moments of the transfer window, just as Mesut Ozil did at the Emirates last summer.
But Ancelotti could have just put an end to those particular dreams for both Arsenal and United supporters.
In quotes published by the Express, the former Chelsea boss said, “The transfer market is over and we won’t re-open it.
He was then asked specifically about Khedira and Di Maria, at which point he replied, “They are Real Madrid players.”
You cannot get much more emphatic than that, and while he did not say they would remain at the Bernabeu, the message seemed clear.
He went on to explain why they did not feature in the Super Cup - a fact that prompted those rumours to go into overload.
"They didn't play in the Super Cup because they joined the group on August 5," the Italian manager said.
Reports have previously claimed that Ancelotti wants to keep both men at the club, and given their ability and influence in recent campaign, that would be no surprise.
So, expect the rumours to die down now…or perhaps not. After all, anything goes when it comes to football speculation.
