Manchester United's Premier League campaign got off to a poor start in the opening game of the new season with a 2-1 defeat to Swansea City.
Ki Sung-Yeung and Gylfi Sigurdsson bagged goals for The Swans either side of a Wayne Rooney finish at Old Trafford - in a game which saw three official debuts for United players.
First of all their was summer signing Ander Herrera. First pursued last summer by David Moyes he finally made the move to United from Athletic Bilbao for a fee of £28 million. He looked tidy throughout the game, with some nice passing and clever positioning, but he was ineffective at times and will need to develop in order to fill the Paul Scholes void as many hope he will.
Then there was the appearance of two youngsters, a sign of the lack of transfer activity at United, the long injury list and Louis van Gaal's openness to playing homegrown talent.
The players in question were Jesse Lingard and Tyler Blackett. Both have featured in pre-season and with injury issues affecting team selection they lined up at right wing-back and centre-back respectively.
Both looked like real prospects. Lingard looked lively down the flank, playing out of position did not seem to faze him and he was more than happy to get stuck in to the odd tackle.
Unfortunately that proved to be his undoing. A challenge with Ashley Williams saw him hurt his knee, and he limped out of the action early in the first-half.
Blackett looked composed with the ball at his feet and very good in the air. United are short of defensive options so he might get plenty of action in the coming weeks and perhaps the rest of the season - especially if he performs like he did today.
Here are some more pictures of the guys in action this afternoon...
