London neighbours West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur renew their rivalry at Upton Park today to kick the season off.
The Hammers had some low moments last season under Sam Allardyce, but the former Blackburn and Bolton boss kept his job - on the proviso that he brought more attractive football to the club. Big money has been spent this summer in order to bring Aaron Cresswell, Cheikhou Kouyate, Mauro Zarate, Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia to the club, and a top 10 finish is now expected.
Their opponents today have had an uncharacteristically quiet summer, with new manager Mauricio Pochettino making moves for the future in Ben Davies, Eric Dier and DeAndre Yedlin, whilst Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm has been brought in to compete with Hugo Lloris in goal.
Both sets of fans will be looking for bragging rights by the end of the day, and a passionate affair is expected at Upton Park this afternoon.
