Southampton’s new signings Shane Long and Florin Gardos wasted no time getting to know their teammates, joining training less than 24 hours after completing their transfers.
Long moved to Saint Mary’s from Hull City for a reported £12million, while Gardos arrived from Steaua Bucharest for around £6million.
Southampton fans will be hoping centre-back Gardos has a similar impact to last season’s defensive new recruit Dejan Lovren. And there will be considerable expectation on Long, whose transfer fee has raised eyebrows as Ronald Koeman looks to replace the goals of Rickie Lambert.
The two new signings join Dusan Tadic, Fraser Forster, Saphir Taider and Ryan Bertrand at the club and it will be interesting to see how Southampton perform given the wholesale changes – to both playing and coaching staff – in recent times.
It is believed Southampton’s summer spending is not yet at an end, but fans of the club may be just as eager to ensure no one else leaves the club ahead of a vital campaign.
