Didi Hamann: I can't believe reported Liverpool target is choosing Atletico

Marco Reus

The former Reds midfielder was reacting to rumours linking Marco Reus to Atletico Madrid.

Dietmar Hamann has expressed his disbelief that Marco Reus will choose to join Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Borussia Dortmund striker could reportedly leave the Bundesliga for £28 million, according to Sport Bild, with Liverpool said to be interested in the Germany forward.

However, recent rumours have suggested Reus could have chosen to move to La Liga side Atletico, with a £21.6 million figure quoted by reports in Spain.

As such, Hamann, who played for the Reds for seven years, says he 'can't believe' the Spanish club are the 25-year-old's preference.

Reports linking Liverpool with a move for Reus this summer are understandable considering the sale of Luis Suarez for £75 million.

Brendan Rodgers has since signed Rickie Lambert but Daniel Sturridge is viewed as the club's only top-class forward.

Fabio Borini, another Reds striker, could be on his way to Sunderland before the transfer deadline, while Liverpool have not brought another striker in since the capture of Lambert for £4 million.

The likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Jay Rodriguez, Wilfried Bony, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Samuel Eto'o have all been linked with an Anfield switch, though the signing of Reus - however realistic it may be - seems to have excited Liverpool fans the most.
