The top five players linked with Liverpool this week - Romero, Bakkali and more

Liverpool continue to be linked with plenty of players from across Europe, and here are the top five from the last five days.

Liverpool may have already been very busy in the summer transfer window, but that has not stopped the rumours that other players could still arrive at Anfield prior to midnight on deadline-day.

In the last week, Liverpool fans have seen an old favourite thrown back into the rumour mill, along with a couple of frankly bonkers suggestions.

Here we take a look at the top five players to be linked with Liverpool this week:

Sergio Romero (Sampdoria)

Following Pepe Reina’s permanent departure from Anfield, Liverpool were linked with Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero. Reports claimed the Sampdoria stopper was wanted on loan to provide competition for current number one Simon Mignolet.

It is probably the most likely potential transfer on this list, but that does not mean it will happen.

Samuel Eto’o (Unattached)

This one was certainly left-field, with the Reds linked with the Cameroon striker as they seek to add depth to their front-line.

With Loic Remy’s proposed move from Queens Park Rangers falling through, Brendan Rodgers will surely want another front-man before the window closes. But Eto’o? Really?

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

The outstanding German international has been off the radar in recent times as he recovers from the injury that robbed him of a World Cup place.

But he was thrust firmly back into the spotlight after reports claimed Atletico Madrid wanted him. Cue the links to Liverpool once more.

Giuseppe Rossi (Fiorentina)

The award for least likely transfer of the week goes to the Rossi-to-Liverpool rumour. It was swiftly dismissed by the Italian striker’s agent and has since been cast into the transfer bin to reside with the rest of the unsubstantiated waffle.

Zakaria Bakkali (PSV Eindhoven)

Reports earlier this week claimed Liverpool were winning the proverbial race for PSV Eindhoven winger Zakaria Bakkali. The 18-year-old is also said to be interesting Arsenal, but the Reds and Atletico Madrid look like fighting it out for the teenager who...hypothetically speaking.
