Five players to be linked with Manchester United in the last five days, including stars from Fiorentina, Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon, Ajax and Juventus.
Manchester United may have started their summer spending with a bang, bringing in Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw in little over a day, but since those heady hours they have gone very quiet.
The rumours persist, with a number of quality players tipped to join Louis van Gaal’s side, but for now rumours are all they are.
Here we take a look at the five best players to be linked with United this week.
Marcos Rojo (Sporting Lisbon)
The Sporting Lisbon defender has been thrown firmly into the rumour mill after United reportedly made a £16million bid for him. That came shortly after Southampton were heavily linked with the 24-year-old.
Since reports of United’s bid first broke, stories have been rife about the player pushing for a move to Old Trafford, disciplinary proceedings from his current club and complications surrounding third-party ownership.
Juan Cuadrado (Fiorentina)
The Colombian winger continues to be strongly linked with United, and that is no surprise. The Fiorentina player would be perfect in van Gaal’s 3-5-2 formation and would be a far better option than the unpredictable Rafael or the hard-working Antonio Valencia.
Reports continue to link Barcelona with a bid, despite plenty of claims that the Spanish side has in fact moved on.
Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid)
This is a strange one, considering United’s formation and the fact that Di Maria is not exactly your typical wing-back. Any wide-man arriving at Old Trafford this summer is likely to be asked to be equally adapt in defensive areas, while the Real Madrid star does his best work in the opposing half.
That said, he would still take the Premier League by storm.
Daley Blind (Ajax)
The Netherlands international would be a fantastic addition to United’s squad but while the rumours persist, it is believed van Gaal has not yet made a bid for the Ajax man. His versatility would see him become a vital part of United’s squad, but if this was going to happen, it probably would have by now.
Arturo Vidal (Juventus)
The rumours simply will not go away, despite Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri saying he has no intention of selling the Chilean midfielder.
Just like some of United’s proposed targets last summer, this one looks like dragging on and one, but do not be surprised if it is all a smoke-screen and van Gaal ultimately swoops for Kevin Strootman instead.
