Arsenal's Jack Wilshere has taken to Instagram to wish his teammate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Happy Birthday in a hilarious manner.
Jack Wilshere has posted a hilarious birthday message for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on social media site Instagram.
The Ox is celebrating his 21st birthday today and Wilshere saw it as a great opportunity to make a joke out of the infamous incident where Kieran Gibbs was sent off instead of him as a case of mistaken identity.
The Arsenal midfield posted a picture of Gibbs with the caption: “Happy birthday to my boy @alexoxchamberlain.”
It may be something which the Gunners can laugh about now, but at the time they certainly failed to see the funny side.
The incident in question occurred when Oxlade-Chamberlain diverted a shot wide, on the line, with his hand in a Premier League match against Chelsea.
The action left referee Andre Marinner with little choice but to brandish the red-card, but he showed it to the wrong player – mistakenly banishing Gibbs from the field of play.
In the end, Arsenal went on to lose the clash to their London rivals 6-0 with Wenger saying that it was one of the worst days of his career.
Time, as they say, is a great healer, though, and it seems now that the Gunners are able to make light of a situation which caused outrage at the time.
Arsenal will be hoping to avoid any repeat controversies this year when they begin their Premier League campaign.
Wenger’s men take on Crystal Palace on Saturday in their opening day fixture as they prepare to mount a challenge for the title this season.
Will Arsenal win on opening day?
