Another blow for Palace as Wilfried Zaha closes in on QPR switch

Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha is reportedly close to joining Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan deal despite interest from Crystal Palace.

The 21-year-old winger was expected to make a return to Selhurst Park on loan for the season but Tony Pulis's departure has put any deal in jeopardy.

The Eagles have been thrown into potential chaos on the eve of the new Premier League season following the departure of Pulis, and now Zaha is closing in on a move to London rivals Queens Park Rangers, according to The Sun.

The former Palace star made just two league appearances for Manchester United last season as he fell out of favour with David Moyes, though new boss Louis Van Gaal feels that another loan move will help Zaha develop better than if he were to stay at Old Trafford.

It is difficult to see the youngster fitting in to Van Gaal's system at United, as the Dutch manager is set to play with wing-backs and Zaha will not be able to perform the defensive duties necessary to play in the role.

He was played as a striker on the club's pre-season tour, but a move to QPR would allow the England international to play in his preferred role on the wing.

Harry Redknapp has already brought in Mauricio Isla on loan from Juventus and has also brought in Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker and Jordon Mutch on permanent deals.

The R's will be hoping for a solid campaign in the top-flight this season and the addition of Zaha will add to the club's attacking options.

Zaha struggled to make much of an impact last season at United and then while on loan at Cardiff, and he picked up just one assist in 14 league appearances last term.

A move to QPR would give Zaha the chance to play regular football under Harry Redknapp in a move that would surely benefit all parties.

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for their former star, but QPR now look most likely to swoop following the departure of Pulis.
