The 20-year-old has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer and following Chelsea’s sale of striker Romelu Lukaku to the Toffees, speculation the Londoners have made a verbal agreement with Everton over Ross Barkley ensued.
However, Roberto Martinez denied any such agreement and stated the England international will not be impacted by the transfer of Lukaku:
"No, no. Not at all," he said when asked if Chelsea had any such an option on Barkley.
"We have a good relationship and a professional relationship and I want to believe that they [Chelsea] feel that they can trust us in sending players out on loan.”
"He has developed that bridge between the two clubs and there is a possibility for both to use it in a good way, but there is no commitment in any sort of future deals,” added the Toffees’ boss.
Barkley has been linked in recent months with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea following an impressive performance last term that earned the midfielder a call up to Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
Everton have fought to keep their best players for a number of summers in succession with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini heading to Old Trafford, Joleon Lescott and Jack Rodwell moving to Manchester City, Mikel Arteta moving to Arsenal, Steven Pienaar to Tottenham. However, the Blues were able to keep hold of Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman and now they look to be secure in keeping Barkley.
Chelsea fans may be disappointed but the Blues have already added an abundance of stars and prospects to their midfield ranks. So far Jose Mourinho has spent £85 million this summer to sign Cesc Fabregas who joins previous signings Andre Schurrle, Willian, Mohamed Salah, Nemanja Matic, and Marco van Ginkel along with first team stars Eden Hazard, Ramires, John Obi Mikel, and Oscar.
