Cleverley: Van Gaal's style plays to my strengths

Manchester United midfielder believes he can be a success under Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley is hopeful a bounce-back season lies in store on a personal level as well as from a team perspective.

The midfielder's poor performances under David Moyes saw him lose out on a place in England's World Cup squad.

Another disappointing campaign could see the Cleverley's United career come to an end to, so he knows there is pressure to perform.

The good news is the 25-year-old appears confident he can flourish under new manager Louis van Gaal, and the manager's style suits him.

He told ManUtd.com: "It's very much pass and move, always asking for the ball, which is my game.

"And the manager is so clear that there can be no questions asked from our point of view. We know exactly what he wants and are confident that if we do what he wants on the pitch, we'll win."

Van Gaal has already shown his man management skills, by boosting Cleverley's confidence in handing him the captain's armband for a pre-season game.

Allowing the midfielder to feel important, and giving him assurance he does not need to worry immediately about being sold, provides him a platform from which to kick on.

It's no secret that David Moyes' rigid style didn't do anybody at United any favours last season, least of all Cleverley, and if anybody can turn his fortunes around, it is Louis van Gaal.
