Chelsea have today unveiled their squad numbers for the new campaign and there were a couple of surprises in store for anybody who had bought an Oscar shirt for the new season. Because they might need to get the number re-printed.
Oscar has stepped aside and vacated his number 11 shirt in order for Didier Drogba, who has re-signed for the club this summer, to take back the number he wore with aplomb during his previous spell at Stamford Bridge.
Oscar meanwhile will be wearing the number 8 jersey last worn by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard - who is currently on loan at Premier League title rivals Manchester City from New York City FC.
And Drogba, who first took the shirt after Damien Duff left the club in 2006, is clearly happy with the gesture, sending this Tweet Oscar's way after the announcement was made official:
Oscar may have to change his Twitter handle now, @oscar11 makes little sense in the wake of this decision.
Other notable numbers include Thibaut Courtois taking no. 13 and Victor Moses taking the no. 18 left behind by Romelu Lukaku.
