Arsene Wenger could not guarantee that the German youngster would still be at Arsenal by Transfer Deadline day.
Arsenal have brought in big name forward Alexis Sanchez this summer, again improving the club's wide options. Arsenal have the likes of Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who are all able to play out wide - and that is before mentioning top youngster Serge Gnabry.
The German youngster is considered a massive prospect by the club and he has shown flashes of his brilliance in his sporadic appearances for the first-team at The Emirates.
But with all this competition for places does Gnabry have a chance of first-team football at Arsenal this season?
That is the question plenty of interested parties have been asking, as they approach the club for a potential loan deal for the teenager.
Southampton, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa to name a few of the clubs reportedly keen on bringing Gnabry in for the season.
And now Arsene Wenger has given an update on the future of Gnabry, suggesting that for now no deal can go through because of a knee injury - but that he could still depart:
"No. He's still injured at the moment and we have to follow his progress. He needs competition and if nobody goes in the current squad it [a loan] could happen. At the moment he's not fit and recovering from a knee inflammation. Even if he was fit, he would play for us."
So if nobody else departs it looks like there will no room at the Arsenal in for this German youngster. The question remaining; where should he go?
