We don't want Podolski in our team, declares Bundesliga coach in surprise admission

Arsenal star Lukas Podolski has been linked with a return to FC Koln, but it does not appear likely.

Arsenal star Lukas Podolski has made no secret of his love for former side FC Koln, who he departed for the Gunners after their relegation from the Bundesliga.

He returned to watch the club clinch promotion back to the German top flight in May, and rumours of a potential return have circulated ever since, although he has always insisted he sees his immediate future at the Gunners.

Koln, surprisingly, are less keen, explaining that they believe the World Cup winner would upset the balance of the squad.

Peter Stoeger, coach, told Sport1:  "What distinguishes us, is the community (of the squad). Many of our players are in a developmental stage to try to compete in the Bundesliga.

"A star like Podolski would outshine everybody that he is in a completely different situation,

"Right now, so someone (like that) does not fit easily into this team."

Koln earlier this summer handed the number 10 shirt number which had been 'retired' for Podolski, to 30-year-old journeyman striker Patrick Helmes, who has since suffered a serious injury.

Podolski continues to be linked with an exit from the Gunners, touted for a move to Turkey in recent days with Galatasaray interested.

It had previously been assumed Koln, the most likely club to be able to tempt him away, would jump at the chance to try to do so, but it appears they have no such intention.
