North-East latest: Newcastle move would be a 'dream', says reported target; Bridcutt excited by Rodwell buy

Newcastle In Action

We bring you the latest news from Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

1) Abel Hernandez dreams of move to Newcastle

Reported Newcastle United target, Abel Hernandez, has revealed that it would be a dream to complete a move to St. James’ Park.

The pacey frontman has been linked with a move to Tyneside for much of the summer so far, with Alan Pardew known to be on the look-out for attacking additions, and it seems that he would be delighted if the Magpies did come in for him.

“I dream of Newcastle, Real or Atletico in the future,” he said.

Southampton and Sunderland have also been linked with a move for the Palermo striker, but it appears Newcastle would be his preferred destination if he is to move to the Premier League.

2) Summer signings keep Krul at Newcastle

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has been kept at the club because of the summer business that they have been able to do, the Chronicle report.

Alan Pardew has strengthened his side with a host of new additions from across Europe this summer and he has clearly done enough to convince Krul, who had been rumoured to be close to leaving, that there is enough quality at the club to improve this season.

A source close to the Dutch goalkeeper reportedly said: “Tim’s happy with life here.

“He is pleased with the summer signings and looking forward to the start of the season.”

3) Villa to rival Sunderland in Serge Gnabry chase

Aston Villa have joined Sunderland in the race to sign Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry.

The Gunners signing of Alexis Sanchez this summer has blocked the 19-year-old’s route to the first-team at the Emirates and, as such, he is available on a loan deal this summer.

It was thought that Sunderland could be one of the potential suitors for him, but they will now have to do battle with Premier League rivals Villa if they are to sign him.

4) Bridcutt can’t wait to play with Rodwell

Liam Bridcutt has become the latest Sunderland player to pay tribute the club’s signing of Jack Rodwell.

The arrival of the England international has created quite a buzz around the Stadium of Light and Bridcutt is the latest in a long-list of Black Cats players to come out and say how excited they are about his arrival.

“For such a young player Jack has had quite a lot of Barclays Premier League experience,” Bridcutt said to the club’s official site.

“He is obviously a top player having been at Manchester City for so long, but it was tough for him to get an opportunity there so he is coming here hungry and ready to go.”

“He has shown that [hunger] in the training sessions he has been involved in and he is a good player to have around.”

5) Adam Clayton delighted to complete switch

New Middlesbrough man Adam Clayton says he is delighted that his move from Huddersfield Town has finally gone through.

Clayton’s move has been on the verge of going through for a considerable amount of time, but a succession of stumbling blocks stopped it reaching the finish line.

However, it has been completed now and Clayton says that he is looking forward to getting started.

“It’s been a bit like an episode of Coronation Street,” Clayton said. “I can’t wait to get started.

“It can be unsettling if you don’t know where you were going. But I’ve know where I was going to be since last Monday. We tried to get it through for Saturday’s game, but that didn’t happen, so there was no rush. There was just a lot to sort out with Jacob (Butterfield) going the other way. It was all rather complicated.”
