Arsenal Under-21 prospect Isaac Hayden trained with the senior squad during pre-season. He recounts his story here…
Isaac Hayden, a player capable of excelling at centre back and defensive midfield for the Under-21 Arsenal side, has commented on the experience he had training with the senior squad in North London and in New York, earlier this summer.
As a young Gunner, Hayden has demonstrated great versatility and even spent a 40-minute spell in goal for the Under-18s. Just last month, he was training alongside and then competing against, legendary hitman Thierry Henry.
"It was great to start in our opening friendly of pre-season at Boreham Wood," Hayden said to the Arsenal Magazine. "When the first team came back after their break, a number of us joined in with their training so it was nice to get a run-out."
Hayden, a 19-year-old, has added a strength and conditioning programme to his training repertoire.
On what it was like to learn from and speak to Henry, he said it was "a fantastic experience."
"He drifted into midfield a bit more so luckily for me he wasn't making those trademark runs in behind like he used to.
I've trained with Thierry on a few occasions when he came back to the club but it was special to play against him."
