Chelsea midfielder could be loaned out this season, reveals agent

Marco van Ginkel's agent has said that the Chelsea midfielder could be loaned out this season, with a decision set to be made towards the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel could be loaned out this season, according to his agent Rob Jansen.

Signed from boyhood club Vitesse in July 2013 for around £8 million, the 21-year-old Dutchman made just four appearances during his debut season in England before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a League Cup tie against Swindon Town in September.

Returning to reserve team action towards the end of the campaign, the two-time capped international has looked impressive so far in pre-season but, with fierce competition for places in Jose Mourinho’s squad, Jansen has revealed that a loan move could still be possible before the transfer window closes.

‘Van Ginkel could be loaned out but we will find out more in the last week of August,’ he told NU.nl.

Having starred in Eredivisie for three seasons prior to his Chelsea move, van Ginkel’s promise is evident, but major minutes will be lacking as long as Ramires, Willian, Nemanja Matic, Jon Obi Mikel, Cesc Fabregas and Oscar are still at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho remains a huge fan of his all-round midfield skills, even vetoing an earlier loan move to Ajax last August to keep him around the first-team setup, but a spell elsewhere in 2014-15 could just prove the best thing for his development at this point.
