Barcelona are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Douglas from Sao Paulo, which could be very good news for Manchester United.
Both clubs have been heavily linked with Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, with reports claiming United have made a bid for the player, while others suggested that Spain was his preferred destination.
However, the Catalan side look like they have moved on, after previous stories claimed they had withdrawn their offer for the £32million-rated Colombian.
Newspaper Sport now claims Barca are close to agreeing a deal to bring Douglas to the Nou Camp for a fee in the region of €7million.
The 24-year-old operates in very similar positions to Cuadrado and would give Barca plenty of options down the right side.
If true, United may be left with a clear-run at Cuadrado; a player tipped to become their new right wing-back after his impressive showings at the World Cup.
Doubts remain over the long-term future of Rafael, while Antonio Valencia is a hard-worker but not necessarily the best option in that position.
Cuadrado certainly would be, giving United excellent options down the right side.
And while contrasting reports continue – some suggesting Louis van Gaal’s side are in the box-seat and others claiming the club are not interested in the player – it seems Barcelona may have made things a little easier if the Fiorentina star does move on this summer.
