Manchester United finished off their excellent pre-season in dramatic style last night, by defeating Spanish outfit Valencia with a last minute goal.
Prior to the game the club had named Wayne Rooney and Darren Fletcher as the club's new captain and vice-captain respectively - after Louis van Gaal decided against giving his teachers pet Robin van Persie the armband.
And both players were involved in the action.
Wayne Rooney won a dubious penalty after going down under an aerial challenge, but justice was perhaps served when he powered his spot-kick into the post.
Fletcher had more luck in the second half. After Valencia failed to clear a set-play the ball fell at the Scotsman's feet, his side-foot effort deflecting over Diego Alves for 1-0.
New signing Rodrigo equalised for Los Che with an instinctive back-post volley. Then, with the game seemingly over, Alves charged into his own man from a long ball into the area and Marouane Fellaini was there to pick up the spoils - chesting before hitting a left foot strike into an empty net for the win.
The game was not only van Gaal's first in front of the Old Trafford crowd. But also Ander Herrera's. The young Spaniard has impressed everyone with his terrific performances this summer. The talented maestro took to Twitter to celebrate victory and look ahead to next weekend.
David de Gea on the other hand was thankful for the fans at Old Trafford - who are clearly looking at a far better 2014-15 then 2013-14 under their new boss.
